To emphasize the importance of diversity in education and our lives, Northhampton Community College strives to:

  • Provide equal opportunity and access to higher education and to recruit and retain a student body, faculty, and staff which are representative of our community.
  • Promote a campus climate where tolerance, respect, and appreciation for differences are priorities and where individuals of diverse backgrounds peacefully coexist, free from the consequences of prejudice and bigotry.
  • Integrate multicultural and diverse perspectives appropriately throughout the curricula.
  • Ensure that services, organizational structures, and institutional policies address the needs of our diverse constituencies.

Northampton Community College is committed to educating individuals of all backgrounds who can strengthen the economic and social infrastructure of our nation and the world.

The College community is united in the condemnation of acts of hatred and intolerance.

Our Continuing Commitment to Diversity

During the 2004/05 academic year, the College developed a three year strategic plan for inclusion/diversity activities. The plan focuses on three major areas: Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Retention, Student Recruitment and Retention, and Institutional Commitment. Work continues on these important initiatives, and our continuing commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident in all of our efforts — both in and out of the classroom.

Student Body

Each year, approximately 25,000 people attend credit and non-credit classes at the College; over 9,000 are credit students. More than half of credit students are traditional college-age; over 40% attend on a full-time basis.

Students are enrolled from 47 counties outside Northampton County, 22 states outside Pennsylvania and 39 countries outside the United States. Minority students make up 18% of the student population.

Faculty

Northampton's faculty are credentialed professionals who bring knowledge and experience to the classroom. Individualized instruction and guidance is ensured by a ratio of one professor to every 22 students.
