The University of Oregon: Transforming Lives

University of Oregon
An experience unlike any other in higher education awaits you at the University of Oregon, the state's flagship public research and liberal arts university.

One of only 62 institutions in the prestigious Association of American Universities, UO enrolls more than 20,000 men and women studying at idyllic, lush settings in the heart of the rugged Pacific Northwest. The university's mid-range size gives it the ambience of a smaller institution, but with all the benefit of the resources of a major research institution.

The university's main campus is located in Eugene, nationally recognized as one of America's most "livable" cities, as well as one of its best college towns. Portland lies two hours to the north, the Pacific Ocean an hour or so to the west and majestic, snow-capped mountains just one hour to the east.

Because of its outstanding quality and affordability, UO was the only university on the U.S. West Coast named to the 44-member "Best Buy" list in the highly regarded "2004 Fiske Guide to Colleges."

Other recent studies have ranked the UO faculty among the world's top 50 in scholarly productivity and impact, and the liberal arts and sciences faculty among the top 15 in U.S. public research universities. Sponsored research funding has grown 35 percent in the past two years, with exponential increases in company spin-offs and income from patents and licenses.

UO is committed to transforming lives through the highest quality teaching and scholarship, a unique student experience that fosters personal responsibility and community contributions, and programs that have a positive impact both on communities we directly serve and more broadly on the global community in which we all participate.

With outstanding international relationships developed through excellent study abroad programs, UO serves a significant percentage of international students and infuses a global perspective throughout the curriculum. UO is a charter member of the prestigious Association of Pacific Rim Universities and in 2003 celebrated the 60th anniversary of its Asian Studies Program, one of the oldest such interdisciplinary initiatives in the United States.
