Mount Union College is a 4-year, private, liberal arts college offering a liberal arts education grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition. The College affirms the importance of reason, open inquiry, living faith, and individual worth. Mount Union's mission is to prepare students for meaningful work, fulfilling lives, and responsible citizenship. Mount Union was founded in 1846 by Orville Nelson Hartshorn as a place where men and women could be educated with equal opportunity, science would parallel the humanities and there would be no distinction due to race, color or sex. Mount Union College enrolls 2,300 undergraduates; approximately 55 percent women and 45 percent men, representing more than 20 states and 15 countries. Eighty percent of the faculty at Mount Union have earned a doctoral or terminal degree with graduate training at some of the best-known universities in the United States and Europe. The student-faculty ratio is 14:1. The average class size is 15. Classes are offered Fall and Spring Semesters with a Summer Semester consisting of three sessions. The College consists of a 115-acre campus with an additional 109-acre nature center. It is located in Alliance, Ohio (population 25,000), 70 miles from Cleveland and 80 miles from Pittsburgh.
