Gordon College is member of the elite Annapolis Group, a consortium of the nation's leading liberal arts institutions. In 2005 the College was awarded the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities Racial Harmony Award. Gordon has also received recognition in U.S. News & World Report as "one of the best national liberal arts colleges." Gordon has been recognized by the John Templeton Foundation as one of the Colleges That Encourage Character Development and has also received acclamation from the Princeton Review's Best Northeastern College., The Fiske Guide to Colleges named Gordon as one of "300 best and most interesting colleges."

Faculty and Faculty Development Gordon has a student-faculty ratio of 17-1 with an average class size of 20. There are over 100 full-time faculty members and over 75% of the faculty members hold a terminal degree in the field.

Gordon is committed to faculty growth in teaching and scholarship. Its award-winning, strategic faculty development program includes first-year faculty orientation and mentoring programs and continued support through the tenure and promotion process. Faculty are encouraged to develop their research and given outlets such as monthly Faculty Forum to share their work. Faculty members at Gordon are eligible for sabbatical every five years.

Gordon encourages interdisciplinary and intercollegiate research and dialogue through the Center for Christian Studies (CCS) and Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA). The mission of CCS is to facilitate Christian scholarship that will gain a hearing in the larger academy and have an impact on the Christian Church and the broader culture. Housed at Gordon, CIVA is an international organization that exists to explore and nurture the relationship between the visual arts and the Christian faith.

Off-Campus Teaching and Learning Opportunities: Gordon's commitment to service learning, global education and inner-city ministry has led to the establishment of numerous programs for student and faculty interaction. The vast majority of Gordon students will take advantage of one or more of the following formal opportunities during their undergraduate training:

The goal of the Lynn Initiative is transformation through civic engagement. The Initiative partners with some 20 community organizations in Lynn, MA, with over 400 Gordon students in a collaboration that provides volunteer resources and seeks creative ideas and solutions to complex issues.

The Global Education Office (GEO) oversees five Gordon-operated programs including ones in Aix-en-Provence (France), Boston, Orvieto (Italy), Oxford (England) and an Immersion Semester in Outdoor Education. In addition, programs are available for student participation through the Council for Christian College and Universities (CCCU) and other providers. Short-term travel and educational programs led by Gordon faculty are encouraged and offered each year. Some 250 students per year take advantage of these direct off-campus educational programs.

The office of the Dean of the Chapel offers numerous ministry and mission opportunities to students during the spring and summer breaks. These programs give students and faculty the option to experience non-credit, domestic and international ministry options.

Location: Gordon's location is ideal—just two miles from the Atlantic Ocean and only 25 miles from historic Boston. Faculty who work at Gordon take advantage of the many cultural events found in one of the top-ten largest metropolitan areas in the United States. Opportunities abound for collaborative research and creative work with the more than 100 colleges and universities located in the Boston area. In recent years, Gordon faculty have been involved with research partnerships with Harvard, MIT, and Boston College, among other institutions. The rich diversity of New England brings global perspective and experience to Gordon students and faculty.

Student Population: Gordon has about 1750 full-time undergraduate students and nearly 150 graduate students. The student body is 33% male, 67% female, representing 47 states and 31 foreign countries. First-year students average 1200 on the SAT exam, 27 on the ACT exam and 30% are in the top 10% of their graduating class. The first-year retention average is 90%. On average, more than half of Gordon's alumni attend graduate school. Eighty percent of students live on-campus in 18 residence halls.

Accreditation: Gordon College is accredited by the following: New England Association of Schools and Colleges, National Association of Schools of Music, National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification and The Council on Social Work Education.

Academics: Gordon College awards the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music, Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Arts in Teaching and the Master of Music Education. Students are encouraged to take advantage of an extensive off-campus study program that now reaches over 20 specified national and international areas. The Pike Honors Program provides exceptional students with the opportunity to meet unique academic goals not possible under existing Gordon programs. Students work with faculty and to design individualized, disciplined and challenging interdisciplinary academic experiences.

History: Founded in 1889 as a missionary training institute, the school is named for A.J. Gordon, a prominent Boston clergyman of the late 1800s. The college was located in Boston until 1955, when it moved to the Wenham campus — once the estate of financier Frederick H. Prince. In 1985, Barrington College, formerly of Barrington, RI, merged with Gordon.

Campus Life: Over 40 clubs and organizations ranging from political to theatrical and literary. NCAA Division III athletic programs include 10 varsity teams for men and 11 varsity teams for women. Gordon also has a strong intramural program. The Bennett Center is a 77,000 square foot athletics and recreational sports facility. In 1997, the Center was awarded the Athletics Business Magazine Top Ten New Facilities Award for its design and usability. Among other features, the Bennett Center houses a fitness center with strength stations and free-weight area, group exercise room for aerobics classes, three racquetball courts, elevated indoor jogging rack, Indoor Rock Gym, Natatorium with six-lane lap pool, saunas and a balance and Mobility Clinic, sponsored by the College's Movement Science department.
