Editorial Assistant
The Chronicle of Philanthropy is seeking an editorial assistant, whose main job is to compile listings in the newspaper, including notices of grants that have been awarded, book reviews, and short profiles of donors who have recently made large gifts. He or she will also be involved in our proofreading and production process, write news briefs for our Web site, and carry out other editorial tasks.
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to pay meticulous attention to detail, a strong grasp of grammar and usage, and sound editorial judgment. Candidates should possess excellent writing, research, and communications skills, as well as the ability to set priorities and complete multiple projects with strict deadlines, to work well under pressure, and to collaborate closely with colleagues.
This job is ideal for a recent college graduate with a liberal-arts background or someone with one or two years' work or internship experience, preferably in an editorial environment. Also desirable is proficiency in Mac-based publishing software, particularly Quark or InDesign, and FileMaker Pro.

Web Technology Associate - Recruitment Advertising Department
The Chronicle of Higher Education seeks an experienced Web Technology Associate to join our Recruitment Advertising Department. The Web Technology Associate is responsible for the Recruitment Advertising department's web-based initiatives in support of internal and external customer service goals for both The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
This person will be an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining the web-based order form pages for The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy, as well as participating in other web-based departmental initiatives. This person will also possess the analytical skills necessary to build reports for the department using Crystal Reports. Two years of experience and a Bachelor's degree is required.
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong web editing experience using HTML, Javascript, and CSS.
- Experience using SQL and Crystal Reports.
- The ability to write technical documentation and provide training for non-technical users.
- Strong customer service skills, working with both internal and external clients.
- Ability to successfully resolve common technical problems.
- A knack for learning and introducing new applications.
- Familiarity with Talisma and Mactive Advertising System a bonus.

Marketing Web Designer
The Chronicle of Higher Education seeks a Marketing Web Designer for our Communications department. The successful candidate will assist in creating, coordinating, and administering online marketing programs and specialized Web offerings for our advertising clients. Responsibilities include:
- Using a combination of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Flash to design and maintain specialized Web sites, and outbound e-mail campaigns and their respective landing pages
- Assisting with the implementation of new online marketing programs
- Tracking and reporting on the effectiveness of all online marketing activities using such tools as Google Analytics, DoubleClick DART, Talisma Analytics, and Web-site logs and other key performance metrics
- Troubleshooting and modifying rich-media advertising campaigns
Requirements for this position include strong familiarity with the standard Microsoft Office programs; the ability to quickly master new software tools like the ones referenced above; and outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills. We seek an experienced multitasker who has the patience and diplomacy to juggle multiple projects for a variety of clients in a deadline-driven environment. You should also have demonstrated experience with e-marketing, e-commerce, and Web analytics, as well as a proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Flash. Familiarity with Photoshop is preferred. Knowledge of dynamic and Web 2.0 technologies is a plus.
