The Chronicle Index of For-Profit Higher Education
The Chronicle introduces a feature that tracks the stock performance of 11 publicly
traded higher-education companies against a specially created index.
The index was developed for The Chronicle by the Center for Research in Security Prices at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. The index is a weighted composite of the companies' total return (change in stock price as well as dividends) during a specified period. As such, the index is affected more heavily by movements of stock prices of the companies with larger market capitalizations (the stock price multiplied by the number of outstanding shares) than by those of smaller companies.
The chart illustrates the performance of the companies relative to the performance of the weighted index, not the actual stock prices of the companies. Those prices are shown in the key.
NOTE: To see a single company's performance in isolation against the index, place your cursor on that company's name.
